The SHS Girls Swim Team is full of swimmers who are motivated and we love what we do. We won 11 out of 13 meets this season, set several new school records, and put up a great fight against Westfield and Chatham, losing both by low-point differentials. Even though only 20-25 swimmers usually swim in any one meet, the whole team contributed throughout the entire season to our outstanding record by taking turns filling the necessary positions: swimming, timing, and scoring. The underclassmen benefited from getting to be so closely involved in the meets and having guidance from the older, more experienced swimmers. The swim team – which we say includes both the girls and the boys – has an incredible spirit and we always rally when facing a tough opponent. For our rivalry meet against Westfield, we blasted music during the bus ride and made a hype video that got everyone pumped. Our spirit, speed, and depth got us as far as Sectional finals where it came down to the last relay. Even so, many swimmers got personal best times, one school record was broken and everyone swam as hard and fast as they could. Although it was a trying final meet, everyone left thankful for the amazing season, the time spent with teammates, and feeling love for the sport. The underclassmen also left with a determination to reclaim that State Champion title, which our team held in both 2021 and 2022.
