Both the boys and girls from all disciplines saw success this winter season, with multiple school records, state meet of champs performances, and national qualifiers. Despite struggling with injuries early on, the sprint boys were able to secure a new school record in the 4x200m, and senior Kealon Knight broke the individual 200m school record with a blistering 23.11 in his first and last high school indoor track season. The boys 4x800m also overcame the graduation of Teddy Robertson (class of 2022) and bested their school record from last year with a torrid 7:58.84. This squad made up of seniors Marek Muzyka, Sam Ard, and Liam “B” Bernens, along with junior Nate Roberts, also competed hard to come 4th at the state meet of champions and 22nd at New Balance Nationals in Boston. The girls 4x800, containing sophomore Maddie Chen and Juniors Tyree Chmelar, Shannon Palphreyman and Cami Valdez also competed at the state meet of champions and Nike Indoor Nationals in New York, and are looking to make bigimprovements in the coming year as none will be graduating out this spring. In total, 20 hilltoppers (boys and girls combined) competed on the national stage this season, with 14 running hard on relays at Nike Indoor Nationals in New York, and 6 of the distance boys getting the job done in Boston. While they are proud of their accomplishments indoors this season, these Hilltoppers are hungrier than ever to kick off their spring seasons and get back to running, jumping, and throwing.

Thanks to the support and efforts of the SHS Boosters, FASTACT, and the SHS administration and athletic department, 21 Summit High athletes were able to participate in the Nike Indoor Nationals in NYC and the New Balance Indoor National championship meets in Boston. The kids performed great and enjoyed the extremely enriching experience.
